Light Field Camera- An article from "Science Daily"

Ren Ng, a computer science graduate student in the lab of Pat Hanrahan, the Canon USA Professor in the School of Engineering, has developed a "light field camera" capable of producing photographs in which subjects at every depth appear in finely tuned focus. Adapted from a conventional camera, the light field camera overcomes low-light and high-speed conditions that plague photography and foreshadows potential improvements to current scientific microscopy, security surveillance and sports and commercial photography.

The light field camera adds an additional element—a microlens array—inserted between the main lens and the photosensor. Each lenslet separates back out the converged light rays received from the main lens before they hit the photosensor and changes the way the light information is digitally recorded

Flexy Flex from Adobe

“Moreover, MXML - the language on which the Flex 2 framework runs - takes such a minimalist approach to developing Web UIs that it beats Ruby and all other Java Web frameworks hands down. So it’s worth your while to try rich Internet application programming with Flex 2. You’ll think twice before using Java or any server-side scripting language to write Web UIs.”

Mario Morejon, CRN Test Center

Today I used Adobe Flex, the new emerging web designing as well as programming tool. Flux is great. Being a J2EE developer as well as an eclipse user, its eclipse nature helped me to do some works with it. Yeah its really interesting to me. After that I had searched for some more practical comments about this Flex work and happened to see the following posts.

One is about its troubles :Trouble with Adobe Flex

Another one is an interview with an expert Web programmer Anatole Tartakovsky of Farata Systems :Adobe Flex 2 - Answering Tough Questions About Enterprise Development

Sounds interesting..right?

The new attractive features of JDBC 4.0

Mustang : Java SE 1.6

Java SE 6.0 is expected to be released in October 06. An important part of the new version of Java is the new JDBC 4.0 API. JDBC 4.0 brings several changes to JDBC, but its top priority is making things easier for developers.

Interesting developments in JDBC 4.0 are:

1. No need to explicitly load JDBC drivers using Class.forName() to register a JDBC driver. The DriverManager class takes care of this automatically.
2. Java SE Service Provider mechanism as another means to specify database drivers
3. Specify SQL queries using Annotations
4. Bundled database based on Apache Derby
5. SQL 2003 support, including support for XML as a native database data type
6. Improved exception handling with new exception classes
7. A new DataSet interface. When used in a connected mode, the DataSet functions in a manner similar to ResultSet. A disconnected DataSet functions in a manner similar to a CachedRowSet. You can navigate, modify and delete records in a DataSet.

Ban on Coke and Pepsi in Kerala

Kerala has banned the production and sale of Coca Cola and Pepsi following a report that the drinks contain harmful pesticides.

It said it was taking the step because the drinks pose a health risk. Both soft drinks manufacturers have said their products are safe.Coca Cola has, in a press release, said there was no legal basis for the ban and it was unfair, unwarranted and arbitrary.

Five other states have already announced partial bans on the drinks in schools, colleges and hospitals.

But Kerala is the first to completely ban their production and sale. I think this will not harm much to these two big MNCs. At the same time a good and brave move from the government and a good start to maintain high quality of consumer poducts.

But one question still remains ...If cigarettes, liquor and other pans can be allowed to be sold, why shouldn't Pepsi/Coke be sold?

Microsoft may discount Vista

CNN news : Microsoft Corp. is considering discounts or other promotions during the holidays to entice consumers to upgrade their PCs with Windows Vista, even though the new operating system isn't due to hit store shelves until January at the earliest.

Any end-of-the-year effort to spur PC purchases would likely please many retailers and computer manufacturers, who fear disappointing sales during the crucial holiday as consumers wait for the highly anticipated and long-delayed software.

Vista will be the first major upgrade to Microsoft's flagship operating system since Windows XP was released in 2001. After a series of delays, Microsoft said it appears to be on track to ship the business version of Vista in November and to consumers in January.

Last month, however, Kevin Johnson, co-president of the Microsoft division that includes Windows, said the company would not hesitate to delay Vista again if it has any concerns about product quality.

My PHP programing and Java in Kites, Palarivattom

PHP programming is very simple when compared with java. It is interesting too. The variable declaring method in PHP is very very easy for a programmer. But it leads to some problems also :). There a lot of functions are available in PHP and that makes it very easier.

Being a programmer in PHP I am studing and working in Java also. For the last one year i am keeping my touch in java. Doing some projects in java ( mainly in JSP) is helping me to maintain the touch in it. Actually my ambition is "to become a J2EE developer: :-) Im also studying J2EE. Right now i am going through XSL. Mr.Haseemb who is a Project Leader in a US based company Called Maxxion systems, in Cochin is the Guide of me. He is an excellent person with more than 3.5 years of experiance in Java field itself. Woww. Im very proud to get him as my teacher. He taught me the XML, XSLT, XSL. The last two days were fixed for studying the XSL tags and one advantage is that, Im getting all classes in a practical way and view.

Moreover to this, any idea or any area unknown to me...then i am asking to him and getting a through information from him.
Yesterday i had gone thru the MVC( Model View Control) and he explained me about Structs. Today it will be more on XSL Tags....

I designed prologic home page in seven colors. Ausblue, Yellow, Grape, Pink, Orange, Gray and Green. We mainly looked for the one which is in austraian blue..but for a fun I had created six more pages with other colors.
